Women at the top: Brandenburg entrepreneurs in the craft!

Breite Straße 2a-c, 14467 Potsdam, Deutschland - The 35th Brandenburg Women's Week is just around the corner and is organized by the Chamber of Crafts (HWK) Potsdam. On March 13, 2025, the event "Women on the way 2025: Courageous founding, successfully lead", which is aimed at women who strive for a career in the craft. In Potsdam, around 32 percent of women's craft businesses are already managed. The proportion of women is 27 percent in the entire chamber district. This gratifying development shows that more and more women are finding their way into the craft, even if they are still underrepresented in many trades.

During the event, successful entrepreneurs give insights into their careers and the challenges they have met. In addition to the opening discussion with the HWK board member Brita Grasenack, the Potsdam equality officer Claudia Sprengel and IHK President Ina Hänsel, Kirstin Sieling, Lucia Isabel Badenmüller, Lena Mack-Buffa, Veronika Sabisch and Scheherazade Sara Issa also report in the industry. Visitors have the opportunity to exchange ideas about management questions and get to know new perspectives in the craft, which is an important goal of this event.

career opportunities in the craft for women

The Potsdam Chamber of Crafts wants to inspire women specifically for craft professions. The shortage of skilled workers in many industries has meant that women in typical men's professions are increasingly being challenged, although they continue to struggle with prejudices. Christina Völkers, the head of the coordination office for women's promotion in the craft, emphasize that the perception of the role of women in craft has changed significantly in recent years. More and more women are not being put off by clichés and choose professions such as painter, carpenter or car mechatronic.

Appropriate training in Western Brandenburg craft is currently completing an apprenticeship, which corresponds to about 27 percent of the trainees. Women in close-ups and health professions as well as in trades such as motor vehicle mechatronics, carpenters and painter and painter crafts are particularly represented. Despite the progress, however, there are still structural hurdles, especially with regard to the compatibility of family and work.

Invitation to participate

The event on March 13, 2025 takes place from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) on Breite Straße 2a-C in Potsdam. Participation is free of charge, registration at www.gruenden-in-potsdam.de/fadw is recommended. The exchange about founding stories, impulses and interactive valley rounds should encourage women to take the step into a manual career.

It is particularly important that women who work in the craft often score with special commitment and success. Many conclude their exams with top marks and strive for master training. Some of these women then successfully run their own companies. The path of women in the craft not only contributes to the diversity of the trade, but also strengthens the economy in the region.
