meaning of direct exchange

Mayor Sibylle Keupen emphasizes the importance of direct exchange and dialogue at such events. Citizens' interviews are regularly organized in various areas of the city, mostly in the citizen meeting or at other event locations. These discussions are open to all interested citizens and do not require prior registration. The goal is to shape the future of the city together and to incorporate the opinions of the citizens into the political decisions.

The importance of these initiatives is also underlined by the documentation of the German Cities and Community Association, which emphasizes that citizens want to actively participate in political processes. Protest movements against various major projects show that interest in social and political participation is growing. Democracy remains vital, even if the usual rules are often challenged.

The participation portal of the city of Aachen provides further information on dialogue offers and other participation formats.
