Cold case success: suspect after 30 years!

An impressive breakthrough in a decades-old murder case: On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, a DNA hit led to the arrest of a 45-year-old Bielefeld who is urgently suspected of murdering kiosk operators Heinz-Georg Strohmidel in 1994. The investigators of the newly founded EG Cold Case had resumed the case meticulously and, thanks to modern forensic technology, were able to secure decisive proof - a lost work glove found at the scene. The smallest skin particles were found on this, which ultimately led to the identification of the suspect.

Through targeted research in the residents' registration file, the investigators were actually able to locate the man through his initials and the place of residence in 1994. Since he was only 15 years old at the time of the crime, the procedure under juvenile justice is conducted. This arrest is a great success for the Bielefeld police and shows how effective modern investigative work can be - even decades after a crime can be converted.
