On December 27, 2024, a serious traffic accident occurred on the B1 near Kohlstädt on the Strothetal Bridge. According to lwz24 , the weather with smooth roads was one of the causes of the accident that took place around 9:30 a.m. A 48-year-old woman from Bielefeld, who drove a Skoda Fabia towards Paderborn, collided head-on with an oncoming Volvo V70. The driver of the Skoda died at the scene of the accident.

The 49-year-old driver of the Volvo from Springe was injured in the accident. Two inmates of a VW Polo, at the age of 28 and 34 and also from Paderborn, suffered injuries after they went on the Volvo. All injuries were transported to surrounding hospitals. A 41-year-old man from Horn-Bad Meinberg, who drove an Audi Q5, reported lateral damage to his vehicle and suffered a shock. The B1 had to be completely blocked between Fromhausen and Kohlstädt to enable the accident recording. A traffic accident team from the Bielefeld police headquarters and an expert were consulted to clarify the course of the accident. The amount of damage cannot currently be quantified and the investigation continues. Witnesses are asked to contact the traffic commissioner on 05231/6090.

Influence of winter road conditions on traffic safety

Environmental Federal Agency there was often a high number of road traffic accidents during the winter months, especially in January, February and December. Snow and ice slid often represented the cause of the company for accidents with personal damage, which led to almost twice as many accidents compared to other years.
