TU Dortmund: New construction and promotion of excellence set new standards!

Dortmund, Deutschland - On April 3, 2025, the Technical University of Dortmund (TU Dortmund) took a significant step in the further development of its infrastructure. The university has signed a long-term rental agreement for the Hansa Carré, which contributes to the creation of new learning and event rooms. These rooms are particularly designed to be easily accessible in the evening for students and thus promote the student use of the facilities.

At the same time, the demolition of the central library on Campus Nord is progressing. A new building according to energy efficiency standard 4 is being built, which should offer modern jobs. This comprehensive renovation underlines the university's commitment to sustainable, modern learning conditions.

As part of the annual academic celebration, outstanding research, teaching and study achievements were recognized. Rector Professor Manfred Bayer emphasized the importance of civil courage in these times when democratic values ​​are at risk. Another highlight was the lecture by Professor Klaus von Klitzing, who reported on his pioneering discovery of the quanta hall effect and the redefinition of the kilogram.

Recently Professor Hannes Mutschler received an ERC Synergy Grant for his research work on the origin of life. This award is part of the more comprehensive initiative, which the European Commission for Research Finance Programs, especially the ERC formats, wants to promote insights into fundamental scientific questions ( researchfoerderung.tu-dortmund.de ). These formats require the support of the rectorate and an examination by the finance and procurement department for the application.

excellence strategy and inter -university cooperation

A central concern of the TU Dortmund is the participation in the excellence strategy, which has been promoting top research at German universities since 2016. The aim of this strategy is the strengthening of the German science location and the increase in visibility in the international research landscape ( bmbf.de ). The TU Dortmund has submitted four full applications within the framework of this strategy to promote its top performance in research.
