Rheinkirmes Düsseldorf: Europe's largest drone show is starting soon!
Düsseldorf invites you to the Rhine Fair 2023: Experience Europe's largest drone show on July 12th and 18th on the Rhine.

Rheinkirmes Düsseldorf: Europe's largest drone show is starting soon!
On July 11th to 20th, 2023, the Rhine Fair in Düsseldorf will be the venue for a spectacular event. The largest drone show in Europe will take place here, which will conjure up a kaleidoscopic experience in the sky with 1,000 drones flashing light. On the days of the show, July 12th and 18th, the supporting program will begin at 10:15 p.m. and last 20 minutes each.
Fireworks and music will accompany the drone show, which features synchronized lights and impressive 2D and 3D animations. The drones act as living pixels and shine in up to 1.6 million colors. The show will start with a typical Düsseldorf motif – the legendary cartwheel. In total, visitors can look forward to 16 different motifs, from a Ferris wheel to dancers to geometric shapes that are artfully designed in the sky.
The perfect vantage point
Not only will the drones impress, the view will also be impressive. About 80 percent of the show is visible from the opposite bank of the Rhine and from the Rhine bridges. A particularly beautiful place is on the hill towards Oberkassel and on the Rhine meadows, where numerous visitors can experience the impressive scenes up close.
Preparing for such a large-scale drone show is not without its challenges. A small drone airport will be set up for take-off and landing operations, and close coordination with the aviation safety authorities is a given. In this way, possible problems in air traffic are to be avoided so that the sky over Düsseldorf shines safely and colorfully.
Traffic measures for the Rhine fair
The Rhine fair not only promises a feast for the eyes, but also brings with it some logistical challenges. Around 300 showmen will be represented on an area of around 165,000 square meters. To make these festive days possible, some streets in the city center will be closed and traffic will be rerouted. On the days of the drone show, July 12th and 18th, the Luegallee (from Belsenplatz), the Oberkasseler Bridge and all access roads in both directions will be closed from 8 p.m. Only one lane of the Rheinkniebrücke remains open towards the city center, while the Oberkassel-Rheinalleetunnel exit at Heerdter triangle will be closed. Traffic will be redirected via the Theodor Heuss Bridge.
In addition to the drone show, there will traditionally be a large fireworks display on the Rhine on the last day of the fair, which will still have its place in the program and will round off the celebrations in a fitting manner. The entire drone show is financed by sponsors, which makes this highlight of the fair possible without any financial hurdles.
Overall, the Rhine Fair is not only a place for exciting rides, but also a platform for innovative and spectacular entertainment with the latest technology. The anticipation for this event is already great, and fans of aerial art can look forward to unforgettable nighttime experiences.
By the way, the next drone show will take place again on July 18, 2025, which for many offers an additional reason not to miss this highlight. So don't miss the chance to be there!
