A40 closure in Duisburg: Your route to the diversion from December 12th!

From Friday, December 12th at 8 p.m., the A40 motorway between Duisburg-Rheinhausen and the Duisburg motorway junction will be completely closed for three days. This measure ends on Monday, December 15th at 5 a.m. Both directions of travel are affected, both towards Venlo and towards Essen. Commuters and drivers have to prepare for significant traffic delays, especially on Monday morning, when the alternative routes are likely to be busy. That reports Ruhr24.

The official diversion takes you via the A57, A42 and A59. Drivers should note that although the junctions remain open, there are restrictions in the affected directions. In the direction of Venlo you can exit at the Duisburg motorway junction and enter Duisburg-Rheinhausen. Anyone traveling towards Essen has the option of departing from Duisburg-Rheinhausen and returning to the Duisburg ports.

Construction work and traffic management

The construction work that makes this temporary closure necessary is part of a large-scale project to adjust traffic routing. This is carried out by the German Unity Trunk Road Planning and Construction GmbH, or Deges for short. The plan is to expand the A40 to eight lanes and to build a new Rhine bridge called Neuenkamp at the same time. Motorists are asked to be patient and also consider alternative means of transport to minimize disruption.

The current closure of the A40 is not the first of its kind, as the first closure in December began on December 9th. Reasonable planning and willingness to provide information are the be-all and end-all here in order to do justice to the traffic offensive of the construction work.

Overall, transport infrastructure in Germany is a hotly debated topic. Statistics on traffic volume, mobility of Germans and accident numbers are summarized in the compendium “Traffic in Numbers”. This work has been published by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure for over 50 years and includes extensive data that reflects everyday mobility behavior ( BMV ).

If you would like to learn more about the impact of construction and general traffic information, it remains advisable to keep an eye on local news and plan alternative routes if necessary.
