Revised Ukraine peace plan: Zelensky pushes for clarity!
There are exciting developments in the Ukraine conflict! Today the Ukrainian government submitted a revised peace plan to the United States. This is reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky, who reports that the original plan was shortened from 28 points to 20. What is particularly positive is that “openly anti-Ukraine positions” have been removed, which is of great importance for the negotiations. Zelenskyj leaves no doubt that it is inconceivable for Ukraine to accept ceding territory to Russia, citing national and international legal bases. Russia, on the other hand, remains stubborn and continues to reclaim territories in eastern Ukraine. The standstill in the negotiations is still clearly noticeable.
Zelensky discussed the new peace plan and the European strategy on Ukraine during a conversation in London with leading heads of state such as Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting took place within the framework of the “Coalition of the Willing”, which aims to issue a joint statement on the Ukrainian situation. Merz made it clear: “The fate of this country is the fate of Europe.” This shows how much cooperation between European and Ukrainian politicians has grown. Zelensky was also able to emphasize his constructive attitude towards the talks.
Safety guarantees in focus
A central issue is security guarantees for Ukraine. EU heads of state and government are discussing how a future peace with Russia can be secured. There is a proposal on the table based on NATO Article 5, which becomes active in the event of an attack on a member state. EU Council President António Costa spoke out in favor of the need for such guarantees. The military leaders of the “Coalition of the Willing” are expected to work out concrete measures in the next few days. Germany has also signaled that it will participate in these security guarantees, which was reiterated by Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who suggested cautious coordination with partners.
In addition, skepticism remains in the air regarding the revised US plan, which many have dubbed a “surrender plan”. Trump's recent statements in support of security guarantees show that the US wants to make at least some contribution, although details are still unclear. In an interesting twist, Trump made it clear that he supports air support for European peacekeepers but opposes sending American ground troops. Meanwhile, the risk of possible failure in the negotiations is becoming ever greater.
Ukraine is currently not only facing diplomatic challenges. Meanwhile, in the Sumy region there is growing concern about Russian attacks on critical infrastructure, especially energy facilities. Governor Oleh Hryhorov reports massive attacks and devastating power outages. The Ukrainian repair teams are working in emergency mode to repair the damage as soon as the security situation allows. Despite all adversities, the Ukrainian government's resolve remains strong - solidarity is needed in these challenging times.
It remains to be seen how the next steps in the diplomatic poker over Ukraine will develop and whether these difficult negotiations can lead to a lasting peace. The international community is called upon to find a clear strategy to support Ukraine at this critical time.
