Brewery festival in Maisach: Festival despite financial debacle of 20,000 euros!

The first brewery festival in Maisach, which took place in June 2025, was an event that put the community in a party mood and attracted around 8,000 visitors. Mayor Hans Seidl described it as a successful start and emphasized the importance of the festival for the community. The event was organized by the local brewery, 30 clubs and the community and took place over three days in the courtyard of the historic brewery. The idea of the festival, which was adopted from Kühbach, was well received and attracted not only the local population, but also many young and foreign guests who enjoyed the hustle and bustle on site.

The culinary catering was provided by clubs from six districts, and the promotion of the festival received additional impetus from the community. The festival was ceremoniously opened by the entry of the Gernlinden fanfare, whose music with historical sounds got the visitors in the mood. A pleasant weather also contributed to the good mood, while a cheerful party band provided musical entertainment. Despite the initial difficulties when tapping the beer - the mayor struggled with the wrong tap - the celebrations were overall successful.

Financial balance of the festival

But the joy was clouded by the financial balance. Instead of the hoped-for deficit of 6,000 euros, the community had to expect a loss of 20,000 euros. Considering the previous folk festivals, which left deficits of 54,000 euros in 2022 and 40,000 euros in 2023, this was sobering news. The total expenditure for the brewery festival involved numerous items: 4,000 euros for personnel and machinery at the construction yard, 1,000 euros for hut rental and transport, 2,700 euros for technical support from town hall employees, and around 12,400 euros for electricity, water and food for the helpers. The community took over 1,800 euros, which finally put the cooperation within the community to the test.

The local council decided not to pay for helpers' meals in the future. Mayor Seidl still supports the continuation of the brewery festival as a valuable contribution to supporting the clubs. The aim for 2026 is to limit the deficit to 15,000 euros. The Greens have already spoken out in favor of negotiating with the brewery about sharing the costs, which was welcomed by the other council members.

Strengthen community

However, planning such events always presents its challenges. It is important to accurately record all expected expenses and carry out cost-sensitive planning. Sponsors and supporters are important partners, especially when it comes to financial resources from a non-profit perspective. The opportunities to generate income, for example through the sale of food and drinks or through local sponsors, also play a central role.

For many festivities, market analyzes and targeted marketing measures are crucial in order to actually achieve the set goals. Budgeting errors or inappropriate spending must be avoided in order to avoid financial difficulties. The brewery festival in Maisach shows how important community cohesion is, even if the numbers don't reflect its great success.
