Large fire brigade campaigns: cellar fires in Euskirchen and Schleiden!

Last weekend

Euskirchen was affected by several fire incidents that led to a greater use of the fire brigade. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, January 6, 2025, there was a fire in the Keller of an apartment building in downtown Euskirchen in Wilhelmstrasse. A total of 17 residents were affected. When the fire brigade arrived, the staircase was already smoky. The emergency services brought the residents to safety and saved two people who were taken to the hospital with the suspicion of flue gas poisoning. The fire, which was caused by a burning mattress according to initial information, could be quickly contained. The smoky cellar compartment was confiscated and the cause of the fire is currently being determined.

Around 70 firefighters were on duty to control the situation. During the mission, there were traffic restrictions: the European Reisel and Wilhelmstraße were closed for about two hours. Another fire occurred in Schleiden on Sunday evening. Two carports burned there, whereby the fire brigade was able to prevent the spread of the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries among the residents in Schleiden, such as Radio euskirchen reported.

further fire incidents in Schleiden

Another incident occurred in the night of Wednesday in Herhahn, a district of Schleiden, where gas led from a leaky line to a house fire. Around 70 firefighters from several surrounding places were alerted around 1 a.m. When the emergency services arrived, a garage grown to the house burned. A 62-year-old resident was saved over a balcony door and taken to the hospital with the suspicion of flue gas poisoning. During the extinguishing work, other dangerous conditions occurred when gas flocked into the house and caused a ignition that set fire to the entire roof structure.

The extinguishing work lasted until the morning, with the water supply being difficult by a long transport route. The house suffered severe damage and is uninhabitable. In addition, two firefighters were injured: a firefighter suffered a cut injury, while a firefighter was admitted to the hospital with suspicion of flue gas poisoning, but which was able to leave again after a short time. The cause of the fire is still unclear and fire experts from the Euskirchen police have started the investigation. During the extinguishing work, the B266 between Dreiborn and the Vogelsang roundabout was closed in both directions, such as Ksta.de reported.
