Stadtwerke Hamm: Four new wind turbines planned despite landscape protection!
A lot is happening in Hamm when it comes to renewable energies! The municipal utilities are planning to build a total of four wind turbines in the districts of Vöckinghausen and Osttünnen. As the WAZ reported that the preliminary assessment for this project was successfully completed, and best of all: a comprehensive environmental impact assessment is not necessary. A first ray of hope for the numerous interested parties.
The planned Enercon E-175 wind turbines will have an output of six megawatts and a total height of 250 meters. It is noteworthy that the systems are to be built on parcels of land that are in landscape protection areas - three of them in Vöckinghausen and one in Osttünnen. While there are concerns about the negative impact on nature or the environment, the reports show that no significant impacts are imminent.
Authority involvement and approvals
The next steps for the municipal utilities are to complete the involvement of the authorities and decide on the approval requirements. A spokeswoman for the municipal utility emphasizes that the project planning is still at an early stage, which is why there is currently no specific schedule for the construction and completion of the wind turbines.
But that's not all! There are also plans for an additional wind power project in Süddinker with four wind turbines, which should also reach a height of 250 meters. According to the EIA composite Preparations are scheduled to begin there at the end of 2026, with the aim of building the foundations by the first quarter of 2027. This would mean electricity production of around 54 million kilowatt hours per year, which would be enough to supply around 18,000 households.
Protecting nature in focus
A large part of the planning for wind turbines is the nature conservation regulations. These must be respected during approval, such as Forest BW explained. Legal requirements regarding area and species protection should not be neglected, and the landscape plays an important role in the decision on the location of the wind turbines.
- Nationalparke
- Naturschutzgebiete
- Kernzonen von Biosphärengebieten
- Bann- und Schonwälder
- Europäische Vogelschutzgebiete mit windkraftsensiblen Arten
Planning within these protected areas is only possible if it can be proven that no significant disruption will occur. Careful examination is essential here in order to sensibly reconcile wind energy with the protection of nature. In summary, it can be said that wind power in the Hamm area is slowly but surely gaining momentum, which is good news for the energy transition.
