On the morning of April 24, 2025, the railway line between Herford and Bielefeld Hauptbahnhof was temporarily closed due to a police operation. The block came into force at 6:40 a.m. after a body was discovered in Brake. The Bielefeld police are currently investigating the circumstances of death. This situation led the train traffic in the region to be severely affected.

The police operation ended in the morning around 9:40 a.m., which could release the route again. Nevertheless, train traffic was disabled, and passengers had to expect failures and delays. In order to accommodate the traveler, replacement traffic with buses between Bielefeld and Herford was temporarily set up. However, this offer will be discontinued soon.

  • RE 78: Bielefeld - Herford - Minden - Nienburg
  • RB 61: Hengelo - Bad Bentheim - Rheine - Ibbenbüren - Osnabrück - Herford - Bielefeld
  • RB 71: Bielefeld -Herford - Rahden

In addition, long-distance trains were diverted to East Westphalia-Lippe. Many of these trains did not stop in Bielefeld, Herford and Gütersloh, while some stopped at the train station in Löhne.

Investigations run

The investigation into the circumstances of the body found are still in progress. However, the Bielefeld police have so far found no evidence of an accident or third -party fault. The exact background is therefore still unclear what the situation is further tense.
