Increase security measures: Successful rally in Mönchengladbach!

On Saturday, May 17th, a peaceful rally for the international day against homo, bi-, inter- and transthobia (Idahobit) took place in Mönchengladbach. Around 100 people gathered between 12 and 3 p.m. on Sonnenhausplatz to demonstrate for the rights of the LGBTQ+community.

Despite the peaceful atmosphere, the event was particularly secured by the police. The reason for this was alarming statements on social media that were generally directed against the participants of the nationwide rallies. Although the connection to the event in Mönchengladbach remained unclear, the Hindenburgstrasse and the area around Sonnenhausplatz were sealed off. In consultation with the organizers, the original demonstration was converted into an inpatient focus. The criminal police have started investigations into the threats that are widespread online.
