Future library: Design trainees gaming fun in Arnsberg!

in the Arnsberg-Hüsten city library, a lively center for education and entertainment, has developed a remarkable initiative since mid-January 2025. Thomas Schwarze, a trainee in the third year of apprenticeship, launched a gaming afternoon that attracts visitors. On this day, young people can play games like Minecraft, Mario Kart and FIFA. This extraordinary activity not only brings fun, but also promotes community education among the users of the library.

The Arnsberg-Hüsten city library, which is located in the district of the same name with around 10,000 inhabitants, is one of around 480 municipal libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is not only an important place for the loan of the media, but also free access for people from the area. According to WDR , NRW recorded around 20 million library visits in 2023, which underlines an immense need for library services.

The project Future Library

Blacks and three other trainees are actively involved in the Future Library project. In this context, they will organize digital events in the Arnsberg city library by mid -2025. This project is not only a way for the trainees to take responsibility, but also promotes creative solutions in modern library work. Jutta Ludwig, the head of the city library, highlights the positive learning success of the trainees and supports the project.

The trainees also take on important tasks within the library. They manage about a third of the book, send reminders and collect fees. Niklas Filthaut, 17 years old and in training since August, is responsible for the installation of new magazines, for example. Annkristin Hoevel, who is in the second year of apprenticeship, helps children choose books and is responsible for the children's and youth book area.

Various offers of the city library

The city library also offers various services, including consultations, research aids and literature procurement. The library catalog is available online and the on -loan enables the digital loan of media. Users have the option of pre -ordering media directly in the library or online. Special events are also organized by the library to promote interest in literature and media.

The digital offer is becoming increasingly important today. The Arnsberg city library pursues this development in order to meet the needs of its users. It can be expected that the library will continue to go innovative ways to combine the community and to promote digital participation. Like other libraries in the region, the Arnsberg city library also offers its visitors access to a wide range of information and media, including the opportunity to submit proposals for new media in order to always keep the offer up to date. This makes it a valuable resource for the local population, as described in detail on library.info

The challenges that digitization brings with it offer the city library the opportunity to reinvent themselves and act as a place of encounter and participation in the community. The commitment of the trainees in the city library could serve as a model for other libraries who want to implement similar projects.
