Comprehensive school at Lauerhaas: IHK school prize for creative student projects!

On October 30, 2025, the comprehensive school at Lauerhaas in Wesel was awarded first place in the IHK School Prize 2025. The “DevsPlayground” student team, consisting of the talented students Dario Albrecht and the twin brothers Jan and Tim Boesang, impressed the jury of the Lower Rhine IHK with their creative project. Their highlight: the self-developed computer games, which are reminiscent of classic video games thanks to their 2D pixel art graphics, are very popular.

Beyond programming and design, the three boys particularly value the fun and learning that comes with independent game development. The school prize is not just an award, but also includes a school prize trophy and prize money of 1,500 euros. This funding aims to support practical projects that strengthen economic thinking and personal skills. Around twelve teams from seven schools from Duisburg, Kleve and Wesel competed against each other this year, which makes the recognition of first place all the more prestigious.

A look behind the scenes

But the winning video is just the tip of the iceberg. The initiative to encourage young people to realize creative projects is also of great importance for the IHK. Around 500 IHK training consultants in Germany are available as contacts for companies, trainees and those seeking apprenticeships. They ensure that the connection between school and vocational training is successful and thus actively contribute to promoting in-company training, as the IHK explains. These consultants visit both companies and schools to provide information about training opportunities and to acquire new training positions.

The IHK not only supports checking the suitability of companies for vocational training, but also offers platforms such as the IHK apprenticeship exchange. In addition, they are available as contact persons throughout the training period and help to clarify the trainees' rights and obligations under the training contract. Anyone who is interested can register now for the IHK School Prize 2026. Anyone interested can find information about this on the website of the Lower Rhine IHK and on Instagram.

It remains exciting to see which innovative projects will be presented next year. With its victory, the comprehensive school at Lauerhaas has set an example that will perhaps motivate many students to let their creativity run wild and put their own ideas into practice.
