In North Rhine-Westphalia, the police arrested a 46-year-old man who is urgently suspected of having committed a series of arson on parked cars in Vreden. The arrest took place after several vehicle fires that took place in front of residential buildings in the Münsterland. The affected vehicles included a wide range from VW Golf to the Mercedes C-Class. It is particularly concerned that the crime scenes in the right bank of the Rhine, especially in the districts of Cologne-Kalk and Cologne-Porz, are just a few hundred meters apart. Witnesses reported several young people who fled towards Frankfurter Strasse shortly after the fires. Two young people are said to have been around 1.75 to 1.80 meters tall and worn gray jogging pants. The police continue to look for witnesses and has set up a special hotline for information. This case shows the increasing challenge for the security authorities in urban areas, where such vandalism and arson are a serious problem.
