Metzkausen celebrates 65 years of community association - a look back!
A very special anniversary will be celebrated in Metzkausen on October 30, 2025: The Metzkausen Citizens' Association looks back on an proud 65 years and the Düsseldorf law, which brought significant changes, is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. Reason enough for city archivist Marinko Betker to give an exciting lecture at the 244th Citizens' Round Table that delves deep into the history of these significant events. Betker will shed light on the reactions of the people of Metzkausen to the loss of their independence after Metzkausen became part of Mettmann as part of the reorganization policy on January 1, 1975 and the Düsseldorf-Mettmann district was renamed the Mettmann district.
Contrary to what one might expect, the incorporation did not only bring about administrative changes. Discussions about the effects have continued to this day and show that the perception of these changes is diverse. So far, the incorporation of Homberg into Ratingen and the division of Hubbelrath into the independent city of Düsseldorf have also been discussed. Many long for the old days, while others appreciate the advantages of the new affiliation.
The event in the Ratskeller
The citizens' meeting will take place on November 4, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ratskeller and is open to all residents and members of the citizens' association. This offers a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas in a convivial setting and to celebrate Metzkausen's historical roots. Betker has also collected old documents and pictures from the early days of the citizens' association, which will certainly arouse the interest of those present.
