BYD conquers North Rhine-Westphalia: Four new locations for electric cars!
Electromobility has become an integral part of the modern automotive industry, and the Ruhrdeich Group has taken a significant step in this area of tension. Active in the region between the Rhine and Ruhr for 45 years, the Ruhrdeich Group is expanding its brand portfolio to include vehicles from the Chinese manufacturer BYD. Peter Gerards, the managing partner, emphasizes that BYD has developed into a leading technology group that offers efficient drives, long ranges as well as attractive design and convincing manufacturing quality. This assessment underlines the Ruhrdeich Group's ambition to set an example for electromobility and to grow strategically with the addition of BYD.
The new sales points are located in Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen, Krefeld and Mülheim/Ruhr. These four locations are operated by the car distributor G.E.C.A. GmbH, a subsidiary of the Ruhrdeich Group. Gerards is convinced that BYD is an ideal complement to the existing brand portfolio and sees great potential to increase its presence in the region. More than 400 employees work at the Ruhrdeich Group, which achieved annual sales of around 200 million euros last year and sold around 8,000 vehicles. This development shows that the Ruhrdeich Group has a good knack for future-oriented collaborations.
BYD on the way to European establishment
Where is BYD currently? The world's largest manufacturer of plug-in electric cars has experienced enormous growth in recent years - sales have increased almost fivefold since 2021. Originally founded as a battery manufacturer in 1995, BYD is now the leading manufacturer of electric cars, has broken Volkswagen's market dominance in China and is planning to gain a stronger foothold in Europe. A new factory in Hungary is scheduled to go into operation by the end of 2025 in order to produce the majority of the vehicles sold in Europe there in the future. This step is particularly important because EU punitive tariffs on electric cars from China will apply from the end of 2024.
However, the market in Germany is not without challenges. BYD's sales figures initially fell short of expectations, which led to the realignment of sales. The old sales partner Hedin Mobility Group has largely been said goodbye, while new partners such as the Moll Group and the Kummich Group are opening up the German market. In Austria, BYD triumphed in 2024 as the third most popular brand for electric cars with around 3,800 new registrations, which shows that the company is very popular in the European market.
A look into the future
The collaboration between the Ruhrdeichgruppe and BYD is a smart move that leads both sides into a promising future. Peter Gerards is optimistic about the collaboration and assures that the Ruhrdeich Group, with its commitment to electromobility, offers both its own customers and BYD good business. With this partnership, the Ruhrdeich Group will not only be the local car dealer, but also an important player in the field of electromobility in Germany.
Overall, BYD is pushing into the market with immense energy and is planning to open additional sales locations. The combination of innovative vehicles and a strong local partner could be the key to a successful new phase for BYD in Europe. This could also help the brand further increase interest in electrically powered vehicles and contribute to sustainable mobility.
