Color play & sculpture: art highlights from the 80s to 2000 in Mülheim!

The fascinating summer exhibition “Colour Play & Sculpture” has been on display in the Galerie d’Hamé in Mülheim an der Ruhr since July 12, 2025, presenting works by a total of 14 artists. This exhibition, which is open until August 12th, promises an exciting insight into the diversity of contemporary art. The opening took place with a musical introduction by Gabriele Graefe on the evening of July 12th, which further livened up the event. Mülheim.de reports that the artistic works were created between 1980 and 2000 and are characterized by different styles - from conceptual to graphic approaches.

The exhibition includes a total of 28 works, which are presented in a removable box. Each piece is protected from dust by a glass pane so that visitors can experience the works of art up close. Particularly eye-catching is the artist's table “For Given Occasion” by Siegfried Neuhausen, which was designed for Gerhard Schröder in 1998. This table not only serves as the center of the show, but is also a historical reference point that impressively illustrates the connection between art and society. Information bites can also be found at Local compass, where more details about the exhibition are shared.

The artists of the exhibition

There are some well-known names among the participating artists, including Marina Abramovic, Klaus Geldmacher and Klaus Staeck. Works by these renowned artists are often more than just aesthetic objects; they are contributions to a larger discourse about culture, politics and society of the last decades. In her work entitled “Spirit Cooking”, Abramovic addresses the spiritual and physical aspects of the human experience, while Staeck takes a critical perspective on current social developments with “The Globalization Trap”.

The exhibition offers an excellent opportunity to engage with lesser-known artists who make significant contributions to contemporary art. A look at the entire list of artists shows that they not only come from different artistic movements, but also represent different techniques and perspectives.

A look at the development of contemporary art

The works in this exhibition are not only an expression of individual creativity, they also reflect the development of contemporary art over several decades. These art movements are a reaction to social and cultural changes that have become visible in art since the middle of the 20th century. Abstract Expressionism with its emotional expressions would be unthinkable without the upheavals of the Second World War, such as in the works of artists such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. But Pop Art, which emerged in the 1960s, also shows a radical break with traditional art forms and asks exciting questions about consumer culture. Artsper mentions that movements such as minimalism and conceptual art represent significant developments in the unique language of contemporary art.

The “Colour Play & Sculpture” exhibition is therefore not only a place to encounter art, but also an exciting space for discussion and reflection on the history and future of art. For those interested in visiting the exhibition, the opening times are Tuesday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can also stop by in the morning by arrangement.
