Festival of Democracy: Family celebration for diversity and cohesion in Mülheim!
On June 15, 2025, the open-air stage at Dimbeck in Mülheim will be the venue for the “Festival of Democracy”. From 2 p.m., families are warmly invited to get involved with civil society and celebrate the topics of democracy, diversity and coexistence. The festival begins with admission at 1 p.m. and promises a varied program until the evening.
The festival is organized by the civil society alliance “Mülheim stands across”, which has now been active for six years. This year there are numerous partners such as the AWO, the Ev. Church district An der Ruhr and the Mülheim sports youth on stage to promote the values of a vibrant democracy. In addition to a colorful stage program, there will be hands-on activities that appeal to both children and adults.
The program
The course of the day is peppered with highlights such as the performance of children's songwriter Suppi Huhn at 3 p.m., followed by musical sounds by Hartmut Kremer at 4 p.m. Art and theater are also not neglected: at 5 p.m. the Taubenhaucher improv theater will provide laughs, and at 6 p.m. talented poets will perform at the Poetry Slam. The day ends with a rousing DJ set with Alfa Kay at 6:30 p.m.
Numerous hands-on activities are planned for younger guests between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. These include a democracy quiz, face painting, can throwing and opportunities to enjoy cotton candy and popcorn. The beer garden and food trucks will be open until 8 p.m. so that parents and children can feast in a relaxed atmosphere.
Directions and information
Visitors should note that there is limited parking available around the open-air stage. It is recommended to come on foot or by bike. The nearest public parking option is at the Westenergie sports hall, about 800 meters away from the event venue.
This festival is not only an invitation to the people of Mülheim, but also an opportunity to actively support community coexistence. In the context of urban developments and in view of social challenges, the event is a further sign of strong cohesion in Mülheim. The organizers are also relying on the importance of civil society alliances, which have already played an important role in previous protests, such as against the start of the AfD election campaign.
An exciting and hearty program that focuses on the values of tolerance and respect awaits everyone who wants to take part in the festival of democracy. Let's set an example together for a diverse and tolerant city! Further information can be found at Radio Mülheim, Regulator production as well as bpb.de.
