Math talents from Warendorf shine at the student academy in Münster!
On Saturday, November 8th, Münster will become a stage for mathematical talents. Fifty students, who are among the best mathematicians in the sixth grade in the Münster district, meet for exciting presentations and workshops as part of the Student Academy for Mathematics, also known as SAMMS. Not only boys but also girls from six high schools in the Warendorf district are taking part. The event is organized by the Münster district government and financially supported by the Ministry of Schools and Education.
The participants will experience exciting workshops in the auditorium of the Schillergymnasium that deal with various mathematical questions. Among other things, it is about “How does mathematics help to send and decipher secret messages?” and the question “How much math is in a Rubik’s cube?” These are just some of the topics covered on Thursday and Friday and will be presented during the final presentations on Saturday.
Diverse program for aspiring mathematicians
SAMMS offers students a great opportunity to explore mathematics in a new way. Only 50 children from the entire administrative district are allowed to take part, and each school can only nominate one child. The supporting program ensures a balanced mix of exercise, culture and fun.
The participating schools include the Ahlen Municipal High School, the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium Beckum and the Brüder-Scholl-Gesamtschule Münster. Numerous other high schools from the region are also represented, so that a colorful group of mathematically gifted students gathers. In the workshops, which are designed and implemented by teachers, students can find innovative approaches and expand their skills.
The final presentation, which will take place on Saturday, promises to show the creative results of the workshops. The students have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences with the numerous guests, which provides valuable insight into the world of mathematics.
Amid the mathematical excitement, you might be asking yourself: How much talent is there left out there? Events like SAMMS are not only a big deal for the participants, but also support the further development of mathematical education in the region. Who knows, maybe there will soon be a new math star from Münster!
