The night of technology: innovations and insights into the Upper Bergische!

The 2nd night of technology in the Oberberg district was organized on May 10, 2025 with great success and represented an impressive platform for those interested in technology and companies. Under the direction of project manager Johannes Schmitt, the event attracted around 1,500 visitors who had the opportunity to experience the innovative world of technology up close. The prominent guests included Dr. Carsten Brodesser, member of the state parliament Christian Berger and the Mayor Ulrich Stücker (Wiehl), Anne Loth (Wipperfürth) and Rüdiger Gennies (Reichshof).

The sponsorship by the IHK, which provided 400 "Young Talent" cards for a symbolic price of 10 euros, was particularly remarkable. This initiative aimed at addressing young people and professional clients and giving them the opportunity to find out more about various career paths in technology and craft.

diverse presentations and excursions

A total of 36 institutions from craft, industry, transport companies and fire departments took part in the event and presented their work. The participants had the opportunity to drive their own cars or excursion buses to the companies in the district area and to get a direct insight into the different professional fields.

A special highlight of the night was the tour in the crane house through Abus, in which visitors were able to marvel at the impressive pulley technique. Over 180 guests had registered for this. In addition, Unitechnik Systems GmbH presented its innovative concept in the new Digi: Lab, which included the technology of the digital twin. Here, visitors could not only experience technical backgrounds at several stations, but also become active in a virtual reality workshop. The IT specialist trainees also reported on their training and presented a high-bay warehouse model.

Another exciting offer came from Merten/Schneider Electric, which focused on Industry 4.0. At seven stations, trainees explained the technology of an autonomous goods transport system that optimizes the manufacturing processes. Jokey also offered nine fully booked factory tours, where the topics were in the foreground sustainability and reusable packaging. The THW also gave visitors an insight into the population protection organization and presented special equipment and the operations center.

logistical challenges and positive conclusion

Although the event was characterized by a high number of participants and positive feedback on the part of organizers and companies, there were also logistical challenges. A bus remained in Lindlar due to a technical defect, but could be replaced by a replacement vehicle after around an hour. A total of around 2,500 guided tours were booked, and 150 participants were given the opportunity to take part in the excursions.

The next night of technology is already planned for May 7, 2027, which illustrates the ongoing recipe for success and the commitment to technology and training in the Oberberg region. The innovative concept and interactive design ensure that such events will remain an integral part of the professional and technological exchange in the future.
