Premiere in Oberhausen: 'Pretty Woman' enchants with musical splendor!
On October 30, 2025, the highly anticipated musical “Pretty Woman” celebrated its premiere at the Metronom Theater in Oberhausen. The new production, which is being managed by Limelight Live Entertainment, brings the popular film classic to the stage and has already ensured sold-out performances until November 9, 2025. This means that the musical, which originally premiered in Chicago in March 2018 and premiered on Broadway in the same year, remains a hot ticket on the German theater market.
“Pretty Woman” tells the gripping story between prostitute Vivian Ward and businessman Edward Lewis. This romantic duet, which has already thrilled over 11 million cinemagoers in Germany, shows how different worlds can come together to ultimately lead to a happy ending. The production remains true to the original film, supplemented by modern elements that make the piece refreshing.
Musical highlights
Music is a central element of this production, with over 20 catchy songs written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Highlights include catchy tunes like “Welcome to Hollywood” and “Freedom.” As a sweet conclusion, the iconic “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison is played as an encore. The musical performance is accompanied live by a six-piece band led by Dan Tompkinson, which gives the spectacle the necessary oomph.
The production, designed by Carline Brouwer, impresses with its flowing and fast-paced transitions between the scenes. This dynamic presentation is supported by an impressive set design by Carla Janssen Höfelt, which includes a convertible tower structure and thus meets the requirements of the plot.
The ensemble
The role of Vivian Ward is confidently played by Shanna Slaap, while Mathias Edenborn plays the charismatic Edward Lewis. The 19-member ensemble, of which 14 people are on stage in each performance, ensures that the musical is a real experience. Benedikt Ivo brings several roles to the stage, and Sophie Reinicke as Kit de Luca and Benjamin Plautz as Philip Stuckey also contribute to the gripping performance.
The last performance in Hamburg unfortunately ended prematurely on March 12, 2020 due to the corona pandemic, and a revival was not undertaken as Disney's “Frozen” was planned as a follow-up production. But now the current production is bringing a breath of fresh air into the theater scene and is starting a tour through various cities that lasts until August 2026.
The term “pretty”, which is not only known for its aesthetic properties but is also often described as pleasant or nice, is reflected throughout the production. Definitions range from delicacy to conventionally accepted elements of beauty. As Merriam-Webster points out, “pretty” can be interpreted in many ways. This is also the case with this musical, which delights and impresses with all its facets.
Well, do you already have tickets? You should hurry because the performances are in great demand!
