SC Paderborn brings in talent Copado: A new bearer of hope from Cottbus!

Yesterday, SC Paderborn announced its sixth new signing, Lucas Copado, for the coming 2025/26 season. The talented winger comes from LASK, one of the leading Austrian first division clubs. During his last season he was active as a loan player at Energie Cottbus, where he established himself as a top performer and collected an impressive 13 scorer points in 33 appearances. This includes seven goals and six assists, which provided the club with good support in the 3rd league Transfer market reported.

Paderborn's Sports Managing Director Benjamin Weber is very excited. He was extremely positive about the transfer and sees Copado as a valuable asset to the team. Details about the length of the contract are not yet known, but this only further fuels the curiosity surrounding the move. For many fans, the question also arose: How did Copado rate his performance at Energie Cottbus?

An exciting football environment

The conditions on the transfer market are downright dynamic. In the global football scene, players change clubs at a rapid pace, through loans, purchases or sales. The different transfer fees show how different the financial resources of the clubs are. In the 2024/2025 season, around 2.8 billion euros were spent on transfers in the Premier League alone, while the 1st Bundesliga, despite its financial strength, recorded a transfer deficit of over 149 million euros Statista emphasized.

Meanwhile, developments at Energie Cottbus remain exciting. After the departure of assistant coach Jonas Hildebrandt, who is moving to the youth team, the sports directorate is required to find new support for head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz as quickly as possible. President Sebastian Lemke has already announced that he will explore the market for suitable candidates. There was undoubtedly interest in keeping Lucas Copado on board, but the financial and sporting opportunities to do so simply weren't there Liga3 online.

With Copado's move back to Austria at SC Paderborn, he is expected to carry the momentum from his successful season in the third division into the second Bundesliga. His family background – as the son of former Bundesliga striker Francisco Copado and nephew of Hasan Salihamidzic – offers additional aspects that draw attention to him. Cottbus have definitely lost a talented player, while Paderborn will hopefully benefit from Copado's skills.
