ZDF Christmas service in Paderborn canceled – Pope broadcasts!
We are facing an unexpected upheaval, as the ZDF television service from Paderborn planned for Christmas Day has been cancelled. The Archdiocese of Paderborn officially announced this today. Instead, a Christmas service with Pope Leo XIV will be broadcast from Rome on December 25th, but this does not reduce the anticipation of the celebrations in the cathedral city. However, the Paderborn Cathedral Music, which has been working on the preparations for months, cannot see their efforts as completely in vain, as the music will be heard in the pontifical mass on Christmas Day in the cathedral and will therefore remain a brilliant part of the celebrations.
In addition to new choral movements, the preparations also included various arrangements, which the cathedral music discussed again in a recently published Facebook post. Despite the cancellation, those responsible are grateful for the work done and are optimistic about the service in Rome. Archbishop Markus Bentz will express his thanks separately to everyone involved and show forms of thanks during the upcoming church services.
A look at the upcoming holidays
There are also numerous church services on the program for the believers around Paderborn in the coming days. For example, on November 25th, the festival of Sel. Niels Stensen, various mass celebrations and silent worship are planned. These regular events invite the community to abide in faith and find comfort and community.
The next important dates in Paderborn Cathedral have already been set. The Advent celebrations will begin on November 30th, with confessions and various devotions also being part of the program. These events offer faith communities the opportunity to prepare for the contemplative time of Advent and to prepare spiritually for Christmas.
It's a year full of challenges and changes, but the spirit of Christmas remains intact. Even if the ZDF television service does not take place, we can look forward to a time of gathering and reflection in the church. When the Archdiocese of Paderborn celebrates the holiday in Rome tomorrow with Pope Leo XIV, it will be a special opportunity for many believers to feel connected to the church and community.
Further information about the upcoming church services can be found on the Paderborn Cathedral Music website and in Paderborn Cathedral.
