100 years of Youth Red Cross: Celebration with circus fun on Grafenwerth!
The Youth Red Cross (JRK) in the Rhein-Sieg district association celebrated a great tent camp on the idyllic island of Grafenwerth on the Corpus Christi weekend. The occasion was the 100th anniversary of the Youth Red Cross in Germany, and the motto “Circus – 100 Years of the Youth Red Cross” set the celebratory framework for the event. Around 110 participants, including children and young people from various Red Cross groups, experienced a colorful program full of activities and creative workshops.
The event was organized by a dedicated team including Katharina Limbach, Jens Mrosek, Caroline Westerwelle and Kim Jülen. Professional artists from the Latibul circus school in Cologne accompanied the participants and offered workshops in acrobatics, juggling and clowning. This state-recognized educational institution is known for its excellent circus education and offers one of the oldest platforms for theater and circus education in Germany latibul.de is described.
Workshops and highlights
The young circus artists took part in the various workshops with great enthusiasm, which not only developed their skills but also strengthened the sense of community. The final event took place on Saturday evening with an impressive circus performance that captivated over 250 guests. The participants not only showcased their newly learned knowledge, but also received warm applause for their performances.
An additional highlight was the swimming fun, which was made possible by additional lifeguards from the DRK Rhein-Sieg water rescue service. In the safety of the outdoor swimming pool on the island of Grafenwerth, the participants were able to fully enjoy their time by the water. In his closing speech, district manager Jens Mrosek thanked everyone involved and especially the kitchen crew around Stefanie Burchartz, who ensured the guests' physical well-being.
Community and future
The enthusiasm after the camp was clearly noticeable among children and carers, because the event not only promoted talent, but also friendships. Groups from Bonn, Neunkirchen-Seelscheid, Eitorf, Troisdorf, Hennef, Bornheim, Windeck and the Siebengebirge took part in the JRK initiative. The next camp is planned for 2026, so that the joy of the circus and the community in the Youth Red Cross can continue.
In total, around 580 children, teenagers and young adults are involved in the Rhein-Sieg district association, who actively work in various youth groups on social projects and first aid exercises, as shown on Roteskreuz.at is displayed. The Youth Red Cross offers an excellent platform for taking on social responsibility and discovering personal talents.
The participants received a T-shirt with the special anniversary logo as a reminder of the anniversary. The camp left a lasting impression not only in the hearts of the young people, but also in the entire community, showing how important such initiatives are.
