Shock in Niederkassel: Construction machinery theft discovered on construction site!
On the night of Tuesday, July 15th to Wednesday, July 16th, 2025, unknown people attacked a construction site in Niederkassel-Rheidt. Between 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 a.m. the perpetrators carried out a bargain robbery and stole two valuable construction machines on the “Im Auel” street. The stolen devices were a floor saw from the renowned manufacturer Norton Clipper and a tamper from Bomag. The estimated damage is around 7,000 euros.
The workers who returned on Wednesday morning were the first to notice the machines were missing and immediately alerted the police. Since the devices are heavy and unwieldy, it is suspected that the perpetrators needed a vehicle to transport them. This means that multiple people may have been involved in the theft. The police have now started an investigation and are urgently looking for witnesses who noticed anything suspicious during the time of the crime. Information can be reported to the authorities on 02241 5413221.
Police advice on securing construction sites
Construction sites are a popular target for thieves, and the case in Niederkassel is no exception. The police department has recommended various security measures to prevent such incidents. These include:
These preventative measures are of great importance given the increasing number of construction site crimes. According to a study, around a third of companies in the construction industry have identified theft as a serious problem and 90% of companies have been victims of such crimes. In 2022, there were around 26,000 thefts on construction sites in Germany, with small craft businesses being particularly affected. Missing materials and tools can not only endanger projects, but can also cause high additional costs.
The psychological effects
Thefts on construction sites not only have financial consequences, but also psychological effects on those affected. Uncertainty, insomnia and tension are often the result of such incidents. Considering all these factors, it is important not only to take material preventive measures, but also to train employees on safety issues. A combination of technical monitoring and good organization offers the best protection.
The police are calling on anyone who was near the construction site at the time of the theft to help. Every observation, no matter how small, can be crucial and help catch the perpetrators and prevent future thefts. Communities are called upon to work together to combat this trend and take safety measures to protect construction sites and workers.
