Soest Shooting Festival: Jump with seesaws and the new royal couple’s coronation!

Next week it's that time again: the shooting festival of the Citizens' Shooting Club in Soest is just around the corner. Every year the festivities are scheduled for the last full Sunday in June, this year on June 24th. But before the celebrations really get started, there is a very special tradition on the Saturday before the festival, the 3rd Saturday in June: “Bobbing into the Big Pond”. Here three “maleficants” are ceremoniously rocked into the pond - a custom that not only delights the spectators, but also contributes to the atmosphere of the entire festival the Soester Anzeiger reports.

The festival week doesn't just start with this happy ritual. “Decorating the courtyards” takes place on Monday, followed by “collecting leaves” on Wednesday. The board visits the association's individual farms together with the royal couple. You can look forward to the creative decoration ideas!

The Schützenfest – A spectacle of tradition

Thursday, a day of rest, is a good time to build anticipation for the festival. On Friday the whole city comes together when the shooting festival officially opens with a reception by the royal couple. The riflemen gather in the Teichsmühlen Garden and then march to the market square, where the commander and the band warmly welcome all guests.

The highlight of the evening: The “Great Tattoo”, an honorary ritual for the outgoing royal couple, which is carried out immediately after the march to the town hall. Shortly afterwards, the dancing fun begins in the Schützenhof. Your feet shouldn't stand still here until late at night!

An extensive program for young and old

On Saturday, from 10 a.m., the Hofen gather in their bars for a convivial breakfast before setting off in a star march to the market square. There they will experience an impressive ceremony, followed by the big parade in front of the town hall, during which the new royal couple will be crowned. The mood is further fueled by a colorful shooting party at the Schützenhof before the coronation of the new royal couple.

Sunday starts a little more nimbly when the regiment meets in the garden of the Burghof Museum in the morning. Here the new royal couple is received in the Knights' Hall, followed by a parade and a march back to the Schützenhof. The festival ends with a morning pint concert and performances until late in the evening. Those interested can take a look at the detailed process in the regimental order, which will be published accordingly the citizens' shooting club.

Riflemanship is not just a celebration of the veterans among us. The tradition is kept alive today among people of all ages, genders and backgrounds. It's a wonderful way to experience community and culture. How UNESCO explains, shooting has continued to develop over the years and adapts to changes in society.

So be ready for an exciting and happy festival week in Soest! They are traditions that bring people together and connect generations. And who knows, maybe one or two maleficants will also bob into the big pond.
