The West Prussian State Museum in Warendorf invites you to a public tour of the permanent exhibition on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 11 a.m. The event gives those interested in culture an exciting insight into the history of West Prussia, from its medieval beginnings through the cultural heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries to the challenges of the 20th century, which were marked by two world wars and significant population shifts. Participation in the tour costs just €2.50, while entry to the museum is free. Anyone who has questions or would like to delve deeper into the topic is warmly invited to talk to the experts. Details can be found on the website derspoekenkieker.
Opened in 1975, the West Prussian State Museum has its roots in the Drostenhof in Münster-Wolbeck, where it was founded as a cultural history museum. After moving to the former Franciscan monastery in Warendorf in December 2014, the museum now presents a permanent exhibition that deals with the history, art and culture of West Prussia. Martin Koschny has headed the museum since April 2024 and maintains a partnership with Polish institutions in order to preserve and promote West Prussian cultural assets. Lecture on German culture of remembrance
In addition to the tour, a lecture entitled "Remembering people. German culture(s) of remembrance in transition" will take place on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 6 p.m. Speaker Christoph Herkströter from the LWL Institute for Westphalian Regional History will look at the development of German culture of remembrance over the last 80 years. Particular attention is given to exhibitions about National Socialist crimes in the 1940s and 1950s as well as the differences in memory between East and West Germany before and after the fall of the Wall. Here, too, you have the opportunity to ask questions – participation is free.
