St. Bartholomew's Church in Ahlen: Festive reopening on August 24th!

In Ahlen, in the Warendorf district, citizens can look forward to a special event: The St. Bartholomew's Church will reopen on August 24, 2025 after two years of extensive renovation. The return is celebrated with a solemn service that falls on the feast day of the church and parish patron, the Apostle Bartholomew. A special highlight of the ceremony will be the consecration of a new altar made of oak and sandstone, which will be presided over by Bishop Emeritus. Felix Genn is made.

The old walls of St. Bartholomew's Church tell many stories. During the renovation period, not only were the rooms modernized, but the Christian community was also strengthened. The church will continue to be a place for Sunday services, baptisms, weddings and funerals, with a new, fresh expression that is welcoming to people.

A wish from Bishop Genn

St.-Marien-Kirche in Ahlen.

Bishop Genn emphasized that he would also like to celebrate a service in St. Bartholomew's Church as soon as it is accessible again after renovation. He doesn't want to create a special occasion in the sermon, but rather create a completely normal service in which believers can understand the content as messages from God. He took up a quote from Pope Francis, who suggested that God sends “telegrams” to believers to give them strength and confidence.

With this approach, Bishop Genn wants to be close to people and emphasizes how important it is to feel the closeness of God in our everyday lives. St. Bartholomew's Church also plays an important role in this process and will shine anew as a place of spiritual encounter and community.
