Wunderlicht in Wunderland: Magical lights and winter fun in Kalkar!

In the dark season, the “Kernies Wunderland” amusement park in Kalkar is transformed into a glowing paradise. On November 22, 2025, the “Wunderlight in Wonderland” festival of lights opened its doors and attracts visitors with magically illuminated areas. In addition to shimmering light installations that show animals and imaginative figures, guests can also expect soothing winter activities.
Online tickets are available for just 13 euros, with flexible date selection costing 15 euros. Entry costs 16 euros at the box office and 6 euros to use the parking lot. For everyone who pays the regular park entrance fee of 30 euros, there is a rich experience with illuminating attractions and wintry gastronomy.

Magical worlds and winter fun

The Wunderlight offers four magical areas that enchant even in the winter darkness: Kernie's Village, the Winter Wildlife, Dino Glow and Himalayan Legends. It will be particularly exciting for little visitors, who can try to find different illuminated animals using a checklist. In addition, the ice skating rink remains open and other regular park attractions shine in a new light. Covered activities such as a dinosaur cinema and a museum ensure that there is no chance of boredom even in bad weather conditions.

A food market invites guests to try various foods and drinks, although these are not included in the entrance fee. Those wishing to stay longer can stay at the Wonderland Hotel, which offers an all-inclusive package for a stay during the Christmas period or a weekend getaway.

Winter flair in comparison

The winter time is known for numerous light festivals in Germany. The light festival in Hodenhagen, Lower Saxony, opened on November 8th and offers magical illumination around natural wonders such as plants and animals until March 1st, 2026. Visitors to Usedom and Erfurt can also delight their hearts with glowing installations from the end of November. The magic of these festivals attracts not only locals but also tourists who want to enjoy the festive atmosphere in the Christmas cities and parks.

For those who prefer Cologne Christmas markets and similar events from the region, it should be noted that the “Wunderlight” festival of lights is open daily from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends and selected dates until February 1, 2026. The park itself has a winter break outside of these times.
