Pancakes with heart: Bakers support children with cancer in Dresden!

Ottendorfer Mühlenbäcker, 01454 Radeberg, Deutschland - The Ottendorfer Mühlenbäcker recently added a new, colorful pancake with plum jam to its range. This striking blue-yellow creation should not only enrich the delicacies of customers, but also support a special mission. The start of sales of the pancake marks the beginning of a partnership with the Dresden Association of Sonnenstahl, which has been taking care of children with cancer and their families for over 35 years. Part of the income from the sale of the new pancake and the popular fantotti bread will be donated by the end of June to support the association. The cooperation comprises 28 branches of the mill baker in the entire large area of Dresden, which creates an important visibility for the supported initiative.

The Sonnenbahl sponsorship association was founded in 1990 at a time when parents in the former east of Germany had only limited visits to their sick children. This led to emotional and financial burdens for many families, who often hardly received any support. The group of parents, nursing staff and doctors who were able to establish themselves to found the association had the goal of beating a bridge between medical treatments and the mental needs of the families concerned. Since then the club has developed and now offers a comprehensive range of help for around 300 families in East Saxony.

Extensive support for affected families

The Sonnenbahl association offers a variety of offers, including parents-related parents, actions for siblings as well as music, art and sports therapies. Another offer is heart wishes that should give hope and joy to the families concerned. Around 2,200 children and adolescents are now diagnosed with cancer in Germany, with about 80% of young patients healing. The most common cancer in these children is blood cancer. The risk of developing malignant cancer before the 18th birthday is less than 0.5%, but such a diagnosis brings with it many changes for the families concerned.

The support from psychosocial teams in children's oncologies is essential. Psychologists, social workers and therapists help families to cope with the challenge of the disease. Open communication between adults and children and the exchange with other affected people, for example through mentoring programs, significantly promote coping with the situation. The Sonnenbahl association not only supports families during acute treatment, but also provides after -care offers to keep an eye on possible late effects.

A look at the future

The cooperation between the Ottendorfer Mühlenbäcker and the Sonnenstahl association is a step in the right direction to raise awareness of the needs of children with cancer and their families. The long -term partnership shows the Mühlenbäcker's commitment to actively act in the region and to act socially responsible. Visitors to the mill baker can now make a direct contribution to supporting the association through their purchase. In view of the annually treated patients on the children's oncology of the Dresden University Hospital, which records around 100 new cases, any help that is offered is of great importance.

The 35th anniversary of the Sonnenstahl association in 2025 is celebrated and the association is currently more dependent than ever that society is committed. It remains to be hoped that numerous support campaigns and initiatives inspire other companies, to go similar paths and to promote the necessary support for children with cancer and their families.
