On his current trip to Asia, Donald Trump struck a surprisingly conciliatory tone towards Elon Musk. The former US president, who only speaks of Musk as a “nice guy” and “competent,” seems to want to ease the tense relationship between the two again. How Picture reports, Trump referred to Musk as someone who was going through a "bad phase" and called it a "stupid moment" in his life.
The turbulent friendship between Trump and Musk has a long history. Musk, who invested over $250 million in Trump's election campaign, was a close confidant during his first presidency from 2017 to 2021. But in the early summer of 2023 there was a break: Musk criticized a US government budget law and suggested that Trump would not be in the White House without him. In addition, a post on Platform X caused a stir when Musk suggested that Trump's name appeared in secret files on Jeffrey Epstein.
A late approach?
Trump's reaction to Musk's provocative statements was anything but friendly. Trump was angry and Musk withdrew and even announced that he would found his own party. But it seems like the two have been in touch again occasionally since then. Trump mentioned that they had “a little contact now and then,” although nothing much came of it. Trump's recent statement suggests he may want to open up to Musk's support again.
