Record colloquium in Chemnitz: Academia meets industry!
On April 9, 2025, the 24th material -technical colloquium (WTK) took place in Chemnitz, which drew attention to national and international borders with a record participation of 220 guests. The colloquium was organized by the Institute for Materials Science and Materials Technology (IWW) of the Technical University of Chemnitz. Prof. Dr. Thomas Lampke, while greetings from Prof. Dr. Lech Pawlowski from the University of Limoges, France. The motto of the colloquium was "Academia meets Industry" and reflected the close connection between science and industry.
A central element of the event was the industrial exhibition. Companies such as Kulzer GmbH, 3D-Micromac AG and Netzsch-Einzebau GmbH presented their latest technologies and products here. Furthermore, 62 lectures on current research and development issues were given. The plenary lecture by Dr. Klaus Nassenstein on automation in thermal syringes, followed by further lectures on this topic by Dr. Šárka Houdková, Dr. Lutz-Michael Berger and Dr. Aleksandra Małachowska.
research topics and challenges
Various challenges in the field of material technology were discussed as part of the colloquium. Prof. Dr. Bodo Fiedler spoke about the challenges of high -performance composite materials, while Dr. Markus Guttmann presented the potential of the galvano formation. A significant topic of discussion was additive manufacturing, which has increasingly established itself in industrial practice and was treated in the event. Among other things, Prof. Gerald Wilhelm and Prof. Olaf Kessler reported on the current developments and challenges of this technology. The relevance of the additive production is also underlined by the special show and the specialist forum "Additive Manufacturing - Evolution of a Modern Technology", which recently took place in Leipzig. Here the focus was on practical applications and promising concepts in additive manufacturing, which are characterized by requirements such as flexibility, economy and sustainability. The IDAM project (industrialization and digitization of additive manufacturing) presented fully automated 3D pressure production lines for automotive series production, which illustrates the important role of this technology. Additional information for this offers Autoland Sachsen .
As part of the colloquium, various innovative approaches to the circular economy were also presented. The Samsax project, in which the TU Freiberg, Chemnitz and Dresden are involved, aims to use residues from industry and agriculture for additive manufacturing and thus sets new standards in sustainable production.
prices and awards
A highlight of the event was the award of the prices for the best posters. The following places were awarded in an evening event at the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof: 1st place for Pratidehwani Biswal, 2nd place for Robert Rimpl and 3rd place for Lukáš Václavek. The final lecture by Prof. Dr. Shrikant Joshi illuminated technological progress in thermal syringes and rounded off the event.
The thanks from Prof. Dr. Guntram Wagner was not only the participants, but also to the organizers who enabled the successful implementation of the colloquium. Another WTK is already planned for 2027 in the same place, which underlines the continuity of the scientific examination of materials technologies.
