On November 4th, 2025 the time had come: the economic development company for the Alzey-Worms district proudly celebrated its 50th birthday with a reception that was an unforgettable experience for many. Around 160 guests were invited, who came together for a festive red carpet and a varied program. The event was musically accompanied by the district music school's wind orchestra, which created the right atmosphere.
The focus of the evening was on the success stories of regional companies and the importance of economic development for the location. In a visual journey through time, 12 companies that are closely linked to the development of the region were presented. In his *keynote lecture* Prof. Dr. Michael Grömling from the German Economic Institute spoke about “Perspectives for the German Economy” in times of crisis, which encouraged those present to think about future challenges.
Discussion about the future
During a “Business in Conversation” round of discussions, representatives from companies such as Nestlé Health Science, HDP, Lilly Deutschland and GEG Building Services had the opportunity to exchange their experiences and perspectives. The central topics were the development of companies, cooperation with economic development agencies and the often tedious bureaucracy, which plays a major role, especially when it comes to work permits for international skilled workers. This showed the common desire for a more effective exchange and better coached interest management.
The Minister for Economic Affairs, Daniela Schmitt, was also present and emphasized the need to continue to promote and develop Alzey-Worms as a business location. Her words were well received and gave the guests confidence for the coming years.
Economic initiatives and human contact
A crucial aspect of the business development GmbH is the individual support it offers to local companies. This is done through various initiatives that are tailored to the needs of the companies. The connection to business is not just a question of numbers and data, but also of human contact, which is more important than ever today. The exchange of ideas and experiences between local actors is the key to a flourishing economic life.
By the way, science also has a lot to offer when it comes to promoting human relationships. For example, the hormone oxytocin, also known as the “hormone of love,” plays a central role in interpersonal bonds. It is produced during contact with closeness and affection and helps bring people closer together emotionally. This emotional component can be crucial, especially in business contexts. A hug of just twenty seconds can raise oxytocin levels and thus increase well-being - a small but nice suggestion that we should keep in mind more often.
The festive evening was rounded off with a relaxed atmosphere with finger food and a glass of wine, where the guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas and make new contacts while toasting to an exciting future together.
