Sparkasse honors cyclist schools: 23.67 tons of CO2 saved!

On November 29, 2025, there was great joy in Bad Dürkheim when Sparkasse Rhein-Haardt awarded this year's climate protection prize. The prize, which has now been awarded for the seventh time, honors the schools that cycled the most kilometers during the 2025 city cycling competition. Not only the best teams from the Bad Dürkheim district took part in this festive event, but also schools from the neighboring towns of Frankenthal and Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The Rhine Palatinate reports that the Sparkasse's commitment to climate protection and sustainability can be expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

With a total prize money of 2,500 euros, numerous initiatives are planned to promote climate protection in schools. These funds can be used for specific climate protection measures. Thomas Distler, a board member of the Sparkasse, proudly presented the prizes and certificates to the students who helped achieve a stated goal: to promote young people's enthusiasm for environmentally conscious actions. Middle Palatinate highlights that participants cycled a total of 144,153 kilometers, bringing the amount of CO2 saved to an impressive 23.67 tonnes - the equivalent of around 150,000 kilometers of driving.

The winners in detail

The award winners are impressive. Particularly noteworthy are:

A notable aspect is that the cycling kilometers were increased by almost 37,000 compared to the previous year. This not only shows the enthusiasm of the students, but also the growing awareness of the importance of cycling in everyday school life. Program initiatives such as city cycling naturally play a major role. The competition, which encourages people to get on their bikes as much as possible for work and private purposes, rewards the most cycling-active teams and communities. The Federal Environment Agency highlights that such activities can not only reduce CO2 emissions, but also promote local cycling infrastructure.

It remains to be hoped that these great achievements by the schools in Bad Dürkheim and the surrounding area will also inspire others to act more environmentally consciously. Sparkasse Rhein-Haardt's climate protection award is an important step towards a sustainable lifestyle - and that's not only good for the climate, but also for the community!
