Drama on the Moselle: missing person found dead in the river!

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, there was a tragic incident on the Moselle near Wehlen, in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district. At around 7:30 a.m., the integrated control center Trier informed about a lifeless person in the Moselle. The alarm level "W3 water rescue" was immediately triggered, which resulted in the use of numerous emergency services. Among the parties involved were the fire brigade operations center Kues, fire departments from Kues, Wehlen and Zeltingen-Rachtig, supported by a drone relay by the Bernkastel-Kues association.

The emergency services were later able to recover the person in the current, but had to find that they had already passed away. Any help came too late and the circumstances of the event are still unclear. The police have started investigations, but so far there is no further information about identity or the background of the incident. Lokalo is known for its current, which can be quite dangerous in combination with the water levels of the Moselle. Such events have led to numerous searches in the past and illustrate the need for effective water rescue. In Germany, organizations such as the DLRG and the water guard are responsible for the coordination of such operations and use special equipment and trained staff in order to be able to act quickly in emergencies, as is confirmed on wikipedia

The tragedies on the Moselle make it clear how important good preparation and quick reaction of the emergency services is in water rescue. In a water rescue service, both volunteers and professional lifeguards are used, which are trained for different situations to help people in need and to avoid accidents in the water.
