Music school summer festival: A festival for the whole family in Himmerod!

There was a lively musical atmosphere last Sunday in Himmerod Abbey, where the Bernkastel-Wittlich Music School's summer festival invited many visitors to marvel and enjoy. Around 700 listeners came to experience the performances of around 100 students and teachers. Under the motto “A musical journey in and around the Himmerod Monastery”, the festival offered a varied program that left nothing to be desired.

The opening took place in the impressive historic abbey church, where the newly formed music school orchestra made its debut. With a wide repertoire that included works by Dvořák, Jenkins and the popular melodies from “The Magic of Harry Potter,” the orchestra thrilled listeners from the start. Particularly noteworthy was the addition of brass and percussion to the orchestra, which gave the sound experience a whole new dimension. The head of the music school, Carolin Welter, took the time to thank everyone involved and look ahead to upcoming events.

A feast for all senses

The music school's choirs also performed, including the children's, youth and over-60 choirs, who thrilled the audience with their voices. At the same time, walking concerts took place in the various halls of the abbey, where students and teachers presented their musical crafts.

The monastery garden provided a relaxed atmosphere, where visitors could fortify themselves with coffee, cake, ice cream and cool drinks. Two bands also provided musical entertainment and ensured that the atmosphere showed no signs of fatigue in the afternoon.

Admission is free, but donations welcome

The summer festival was not only a feast for the ears, but also an opportunity to explore the abbey's rooms and grounds. Admission was free, and the organizers asked for donations to the Friends of the Music School e.V. in order to continue to support the valuable work of the institution.
