New professors for environmental technology: Department relies on sustainability!
The Trier University of Applied Sciences has presented its new professors in the environmental planning/environmental technology department. Prof. Dr. Anne Schweizer, a Vice -Department of the Department, welcomed the professors on April 22, 2025, who will work in the coming summer semester 2025. The new disciplines that are intended to expand the academic profile of the university were particularly emphasized.
are one of the new professors:
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Dittman - professorship for thermal process engineering.
- Prof. Dr. Christoph Krieiterling - Technology Assessment and Sustainability Communication.
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Florian Mohr -Topics in the field of production management and logistics.
The department is looking forward to enriching teaching and research activities through these new perspectives and skills, which should make a significant contribution in the coming studies. The expected synergies from these expertise could also increase the relevance of the university in the field of environmental and process technology.
Development and process engineering course
A central component of the department is the bachelor's degree in environmental and process technology, which has a duration of seven semesters and offers engineering-technical and interdisciplinary training. The students not only learn technological foundations, but also scientific skills to counter the challenges in the areas of climate change and resource protection.
The study structure consists of various modules that are distributed over the semesters:
- 1. and 2nd semester: basic scientific and technical modules
- 3. and 4. Semester: Application -oriented depressions
- 5. Semester: A practical semester in an industrial company with a duration of 18 weeks
The practical semester aims to apply the learned knowledge in practice and to develop the problem -solving competence of the students. Organizational responsibility lies with the internship, while Prof. Dr.-Ing. Florian Hörmann keeps the technical supervision. There are also elective modules that offer students the opportunity to specialize in process, energy or environmental technology.
growing importance of the environmental studies
The urgency of the topics that the environmental studies deal with cannot be overlooked. Challenges such as climate change, pollution and resource shortage means that more and more students opt for engineering and social science aspects. Universities in Germany offer a variety of courses that focus on sustainability and environmental protection.
Examples of relevant fields of study include:
- environmental sciences
- technical environmental protection
- sustainability management
- ecology
graduates of these courses often find professions in areas such as environmental technology, environmental planning or in advisory activities in politics and business. For example, engineers can measure the effects of technical processes on the environment and develop solutions to minimize environmental pollution.
In summary, it can be seen that the new professors and the environmental and process engineering course at the Trier University of Applied Sciences react not only to the social policy challenges of our time, but also actively contribute to creating skills and solutions that are necessary for a sustainable future.Details | |
