Senior in Lahr victim to a shock call: false policewoman stumbles money!

Lahr, Deutschland - An 81-year-old man in Lahr was victim of a perfidious fraud and handed over a high five-digit sum and valuables to a supposed police officer on Tuesday afternoon. The senior received a call in which he was informed about a fatal traffic accident that a relative is said to have caused. To prevent detention, he should pay a deposit in the form of cash and jewelry immediately. Shortly afterwards a false policewoman appeared and accepted the funds.

The police and the Federal Criminal Police Office urge such "shock calls". They emphasize that real police officers never ask for money and demand that if unclear, always ask the head of office for ID. Those affected should never hand over money to strangers and, if in doubt, turn to the authorities immediately. These warnings underline the need to remain skeptical in such situations and not to make any decisions under pressure.
