On June 22, 2025, around 11:30 a.m., there was a spectacular traffic accident on the L17 in Sellerich, which brought the police to the scene. A 45-year-old man from the Prüm municipality collided his Audi with a street lamp and a fence before he drove away from the scene of the accident. Fortunately, attentive witnesses were able to read the vehicle's license plate, which made the investigation much easier. Initial indications also indicate that the driver was drunk during the accident. A blood sample was taken to check this suspicion, and his driver's license was confiscated, as the Rhein-Zeitung reports.
But what exactly happens when someone drives under the influence of alcohol? From an alcohol level of 1.5 per mille, the likelihood of suffering a so-called “film tear” increases enormously. This can result in the driver no longer being able to correctly assess his or her behavior.
