Theft at the sports field: JBL Bluetooth box disappeared! Witnesses wanted!

The darkness of the night made a clubhouse at the Rommersheim sports field the target of a brazen theft. Between August 12, 2025, 9:00 p.m. and August 13, 2025, 8:00 a.m., a high-quality Bluetooth box from the JBL brand, which is approximately the size of a rolling suitcase, was stolen from the clubhouse. According to the Wittlich Police Department, which is leading the investigation, the box was possibly transported away by an unknown perpetrator in a vehicle. In this context, all residents and club members are asked to keep their eyes open and to report anything suspicious. The Prüm police station can be reached on 06551-942-0 and by email at pipuem@polizei.rlp.de to receive tips. Rhein-Zeitung reports on this incident.

Such a brazen theft is not an isolated incident. Another incident that occurred in Halle (Saale) in February 2024 shows that theft crime does not only affect local problems. An unknown person took a “JBL Partybox” worth 298.99 euros from an electronics store and escaped undetected. The police secured surveillance images and are looking for the perpetrator, while the Halle (Saale) district court has ordered the photos to be published. Information about the identity of the perpetrator can be received by calling (0345) 224 2000. You are Halle informed about this incident.

Current developments in theft crime

These incidents are in the context of an overall complex situation regarding theft crime in Germany. According to the 2024 police crime statistics published on April 2, 2025, approximately 5.8 million crimes were recorded last year. Theft crimes account for around a third of all crimes, with over 1.94 million cases. Despite a 1.6% decrease in these crimes compared to the previous year, thefts are still an explosive issue, as the incidents in Cologne and Halle show. These developments were also analyzed in detail by the BKA.

What is particularly interesting is that the increase in burglaries by 0.8% and the decrease in shoplifting (-5.0%) and bicycle thefts (-6.9%) indicate that various preventative measures are already having an effect. Nevertheless, the overall clearance rate for thefts remains only at 31.4%, while shoplifting is solved much better with a rate of 89.3%. Such figures make it clear that the authorities are constantly required to ensure the safety of the population in times of changing social and economic conditions.

The developments surrounding theft make it clear that everyone is asked to be vigilant and, if necessary, to report to the police. Only through joint efforts can we increase security in our cities.
