Future of the teaching profession: Senftenberger workshop brings a breath of fresh air!

Senftenberg, Deutschland - On April 9, 2025, the 7th Senftenberger workshop took place at the Brandenburg University of Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU). As part of this event, the Senftenberg model of the teaching impression was further developed, which has been successfully implemented since 2022. The aim of the workshop is to optimize the dual master's degree for teaching at primary schools, the introduction of which is planned for the winter semester 2026/27. On this occasion, representatives of ministries, educational institutions and teachers exchanged intensively.

Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt from the BTU emphasizes that this format is crucial for the design of the dual teaching degree. Ministeries such as the MWfK and MBJS, the University of Potsdam and regional representatives such as Mayor Andreas Pfeiffer took part in the event. The discussions focused on the challenges of the formation of teaching, with central issues such as the practical integration and the connection between theory and application in class.

participation and practical relevance

Special value was placed on the exchange between the participants. Toni Scharkowski, headmaster and participant of the workshop, expressed positive experiences with the organization and the exchange. Juliane Hohlfeld, student at the primary level, emphasized the observance of the students when planning the dual master.

in 2023 Brandenburg has already had significant progress in the formation of teaching. With a budget of around 5.21 million euros and 7.1 million euros for the years 2023 and 2024, the training of teachers in Senftenberg will continue to be expanded. Minister of Science Dr. Manja Schüle and Minister of Education Britta Ernst together with Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt from the BTU developed a teaching concept in cooperation with the Center for Teacher Education and Education Research at the University of Potsdam.

The dual study in context

The Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK) recently presented a package of measures to make the apprenticeship for future students more attractive. Among other things, the introduction of dual teaching courses will be promoted that integrate the legal clerkship into the studies. This should not only make it easier to get started with the teaching profession, but also ensure the care of students with an increasing number of qualified teachers.

In order to meet this goal, various models for dual teaching courses were developed. The federal states are responsible for the implementation and design of the courses, with the aim of expanding the training capacity. In Brandenburg, this is supported by the Senftenberg model, which aims at the exchange between university and schools.

Overall, it can be seen that the way to reform the training in teachers in Brandenburg is based on a solid foundation. Prof. Dr. Juliane Noack Napoles emphasizes the importance of cooperation and exchange in teaching folding as a key to innovative solutions. The results of the Senftenberger workshops provide valuable suggestions for the further development of the dual master's degree and form a promising step into the future of teaching education in Brandenburg.
