Koblenz in the construction worker: Pfaffendorfer Brücke is being rebuilt!

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, work will be carried out between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. These measures are part of the extensive project for the new construction of the Pfaffendorfer Brücke , which is currently one of the city's largest construction projects. The focus is on the Pfaffendorf side of the Rhine, where the sheet piling box is stiffened with steel struts to ensure future water pressure and to secure the construction site.

Special attention applies to the security and stability of the new building. The construction work is necessary to withstand the challenges of the water and daily traffic flows. The conversion will also have a positive impact on the use of the bridge, which is frequented every day by around 40,000 vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

Details on the construction project

The total scope of the new building is around 181.3 million euros, with the country supporting around 80.7 million euros. The new bridge will have a length of 311 meters and comprises 17 buildings, including support walls, adjoining roads and driveways. The construction period is estimated for about five years. An important goal is to keep the impairments for the population and the economy as low as possible, even if restrictions, such as the blocking of the Rhine facilities in the construction area, are unavoidable.

traffic regulations and bans

In connection with the construction work, a switch to foldable stopping signs in Koblenz was also carried out. These new signs replace the previous mobile ban on holding, which were secured with heavy floor slabs. The folding signs enable faster and more uncomplicated designation and cancellation of holding bans. An employee only has to open the sign to activate the ban on holding, which saves time and makes the transport of heavy floor slabs superfluous.

In order to ensure security, the signs are secured with padlocks on the rotating closures in order to prevent unauthorized access. The municipal service company Koblenz expects this measure to reduce personnel expenses in the event of major events such as "Rhine on Flames" or "company run" as well as for floods.

summarized, the ongoing work on the sheet pile box and the switch to foldable holding bodies are an important step to improve the infrastructure in Koblenz, while at the same time it is taken into account.
