Experience the Mainz Museum Night: Insectomania and more on June 14th!
The anticipation for the Mainz Museum Night on June 14, 2025 is increasing! From 6 to midnight, around 35 museums and cultural institutions open their doors and invite you to a colorful program. A highlight will be the special exhibition “Insectomania” in the Natural History Museum Mainz, which deals with the fascinating world of insects, the most species-rich group of animals on our planet. SWR has published the details surrounding this exciting event.
The “Insectomania” exhibition not only offers impressive information about various insect species, but also highlights their important role in the ecosystem. The aim is to promote awareness of ecological connections and support sustainable action. Din and various associations with insects, such as ladybugs as lucky charms and mosquitoes as “annoyances”, are discussed. This show is complemented by live animals such as Madagascar hissing cockroaches and stick insects, which are guaranteed to attract attention. A tour of the exhibition takes visitors through 10 stations that offer exciting facts. The Mainzer recorded the details of the exhibition.
A showcase of biodiversity
The Natural History Museum also shows unique specimens from its entomological collection. These are complemented by colorful, meter-high macro shots that inspire amazement at the diversity of insects. The exhibition runs until November 2, 2025 and also offers an accompanying museum educational program with one-hour guided tours for families, daycare centers and school classes. Guided tours can simply be found at buchung.nhm@stadt.mainz.de or booked by phone on 06131 122913.
Another exciting topic is new discoveries in the world of insects. A few years ago, a previously unknown species of parasitic wasp was discovered in Schleswig-Holstein. This new species, called Campodorus paradiesensis, impresses with its striking yellow-orange coloring compared to its predominantly black-red relatives. These insects live parasitically and are valuable opponents of herbivorous insects. Tag24 sheds light on the significance of this discovery.
