Drug raid on A 61: Police discover 1.3 kg of marijuana!
Early on Wednesday evening, December 3rd, 2025, the Ludwigshafen-Ruchheim police motorway station carried out a major check on the A 61. Comprehensive inspections took place between the Frankenthal and Ludwigshafen motorway intersections, at the “Auf dem Hirschen” parking lot, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. The aim of this measure was to check the driving ability of vehicle drivers and to ensure the road safety of the vehicles. A significant number of 74 vehicles and 130 people were checked.
The results of the inspection speak for themselves: several violations were identified, including 1 offense under the Residence Act and 3 under the Compulsory Insurance Act. Of particular note, however, are offenses under the Narcotics Act. 1.3kg of marijuana was found in one vehicle, while around 300g was seized in another. There were also 2 violations of the Weapons Act and 1 offense under Section 315b STGB, which relates to dangerous interference with road traffic.
Collaboration for security
Not only the police motorway station was involved in the check, but also customs, the Neustadt police department as well as central transport services and other support staff. Thanks to this cooperation, an effective review could be carried out. In total, blood samples were taken from 7 road users who were under the influence of intoxicants. Several customs findings, including the detection of an illegally imported motor vehicle, also increased the relevance of these controls.
In Germany, investigations into suspected violations of the Narcotics Act (BtMG) often begin with vehicle checks such as: anwalt-btm.de explained. During a police stop, it is advisable to remain calm and have your driving license and vehicle documents ready upon request. Questions about prohibited items, weapons or drugs can be answered in the negative and everyone has the right to remain silent at any time.
Consumption options and their consequences
It is important to note that cannabis consumption is legal in Germany under certain rules, but driving is not permitted afterward. A maximum of 3.5 nanograms of THC may be detected per milliliter of blood serum Deutschlandfunk Nova informed. If drug or alcohol abuse is suspected, the police can order tests. If you refuse, the authority can obtain a court order for the test to be carried out against the will of the person concerned.
The control on the A 61 is an important instrument for increasing traffic safety and internal security. Future controls are already being planned, but in order to continue to draw attention to the gross violations of the rules in road traffic. The cooperation between various police and customs departments shows that the security authorities are well positioned to meet such challenges.
