Neustadt is blossoming: New Roßlaufstrasse is facing major changes!

A new, attractive location is being built on Speyerbach in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, which will be given a fresh face with the Roßlaufquartier. Roßlaufstrasse and its surroundings are currently not considered the most inviting corners of the city. But with the upcoming State Garden Show 2027 a significant upgrade is being sought, which is intended to bring a breath of fresh air into the area.

If the city shows interest in this approach, things could soon look completely different. The planning for the garden show has already relied on a sustainable and socially integrated strategy. The competition for the site was decided in December 2022 and the Berlin planning office Atelier Loidl was able to prevail with a well-thought-out concept. A high quality of use and stay as well as an ecologically sensible upgrade are planned.

Public tour of the State Garden Show

An important step in public relations for the State Garden Show will take place on Friday, October 6th. Interested citizens are invited to take part in a free tour of the future site. From 4 p.m., visitors can get to know the plans better and ask questions, as LGS managing director Tobias Dreher promises. This tour offers a first glimpse of what's to come for the city.

Participation is limited and registration is required. If you would like to take part, you should register by sending an email to info-lgs@neustadt.eu. The number of participants is limited and the meeting point is the Haidmühle landfill parking lot. You should also bring weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes, as the tour partly leads on unpaved paths - even in the rain. There are more details here.

A garden for the future

The competition area extends over 23 hectares in the northeast of Neustadt, where a park-like green area is planned to connect the old town and the surrounding landscape. Atelier Loidl has developed a concept with dense floodplain forests, open spaces and a sophisticated network of paths that also includes a “natural grandstand” with a café. The focus is on “Cradle to Cradle”, a philosophy that aims to bring goods and materials back into circulation.

The garden show itself will be a format that has existed in Germany for over 50 years and was designed to connect both the city and nature. The construction cost target for this sustainable project is 12.8 million euros, and Atelier Loidl will receive prize money of 55,000 euros for their design.

With all of these developments behind us, Neustadt an der Weinstrasse is looking forward to the State Garden Show in 2027 and hopes that the cityscape will change sustainably. The city is on the right track to create a livable and attractive environment for all citizens.
