Neustadt celebrates 750 years of freedom: a celebration of history and culture!
A very special event for the city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße: On October 26, 2025, the 750th anniversary of the certification as a free imperial city was celebrated with a large ceremony. The city came together in the collegiate church to properly celebrate its long and eventful history. Many citizens and guests of honor enjoyed the diverse cultural contributions and performances, which created a festive atmosphere. Among those present were personalities such as Cynthia Kelly, Lucas Müller, Christina Jakobs, Andreas Kelly and Markus Mohr, who all contributed to the special atmosphere.
What made the celebrations particularly exciting was the variety of presentations that highlighted the city's historical context. The event offered the opportunity to trace the roots and development of Neustadt - a history that goes back to 1275, when Neustadt was granted city rights.
Medieval market as the highlight
Another highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the medieval market, which took place around the historic market square from June 13th to 15th, 2025. This lively event attracted numerous visitors and transformed Neustadt into a journey back in time to the Middle Ages. Music and juggling by talented medieval musicians and jugglers kept the guests in suspense. The range of authentic crafts and unique products sold by traders from near and far also had its appeal.
What made the medieval market special were the hearty dishes and refreshing drinks that were prepared according to old recipes. And to top it all off, there was an impressive fire show that turned the night into a fantastic spectacle. Such events represent the liveliness and creativity of the city, which, with around 53,000 inhabitants, is very important in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Neustadt an der Weinstraße is known for its viticulture and the charming old town with its half-timbered houses. The historic market square is the center of trade and encounters. Thanks to events such as the Medieval Market and the Anniversary Festival, the city stays on the move and arouses the interest of both locals and tourists, offering them a glimpse of the rich history and culture of this area.
The celebrations for the 750th anniversary of the city's charter were not only a look back at the past, but also a sign of the future of Neustadt, which looks forward to future festivals and events. The city community has once again shown that it has a good hand when it comes to festivals and celebrations. It remains to be hoped that such events will continue to be popular in the future.
