A significant investment project is imminent: The Pirmasens-Land municipality plans to invest almost half a million euros in the region's fire departments. Three new portable fire pump vehicles (fire pump trucks) are to be purchased for the fire departments in Schweix, Obersimten and Kröppen Rhine Palatinate reported.
The expensive vehicles have a high price tag. One provider is charging over 800,000 euros for the bodies of the new vehicles, although the estimated new price for a complete vehicle before the tender was around 250,000 euros. Mayor Klaus Weber explains that the tender was divided into separate parts for chassis, superstructure and loading. The costs for the chassis from Iveco amount to 302,500 euros, while the loading costs 97,000 euros.
Important decisions for the fire department
In a decision that turned out to be necessary, the tender for the vehicle bodies was canceled in order to put them out to tender again. A materials list amounting to 52,000 euros was also approved for the procurement of old and defective equipment. This includes several hundred parts, including important fittings and equipment such as folding spades and turbo sprayers. The aim is to also procure reserve fittings so that emergency services can react quickly and efficiently in an emergency.
The investments show how important the security infrastructure is in the region. Firefighting equipment and vehicle technology are crucial for the safety of the population. Without the necessary equipment, fire departments cannot fully perform their vital service.
