Potato market Steimel: Reservists show tradition and community!

It was just a month ago that the important first nationwide Veterans Day was celebrated in Steimel. On June 15, 2025, the Dreisbacher Land Reservist Association celebrated with several events. In addition to the first official Veterans Day, introduced by a resolution of the Bundestag in April 2024, the 40th anniversary of the comradeship was also celebrated. The event took place in the market square and in the guest's house and offered a colorful mix of presentations, honors and exciting encounters.

Highlights included an impressive flag parade that began at 10:00 a.m. and recognized the commitment of many volunteer organizations. Over 130 events took place across Germany to honor the achievements of veterans and to promote volunteer work. The response in Steimel was consistently positive, and the guests had the opportunity to find out about the activities of the reservists and make new contacts. View current reports that the club presentations took place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. before the event concluded at 6:00 p.m.

The potato market in Steimel

In the coming period, the potato market in Steimel will again bring together citizens and attract interested parties. This takes place on the penultimate weekend in September. Again Reservist Association confirmed, the Dreisbacher Land Reservists' Association will again be represented in the guest's house. Preparations for this are already in full swing. On Friday evening, comrades Horst Kurz, Hans Peter Fuchs, Klaus Dieter Wolff, Alexander Koch, Paul Kutter and Klaus Grollius prepared the premises. These should not only appear inviting, but also provide important information about the activities of the reservists.

On Saturday morning, the outdoor area will be decorated with a camouflage net, banners and an old Bundeswehr vehicle, an “ILTIS” from the 70s. Visitors have the opportunity to find out about the various offers and even get active themselves by moving in step or trying out the products on display. The weather was consistently good on the first day, while the second day could be changeable.

Staff Sergeant d. R. Klaus Grollius appealed to politicians to also get involved in sports and to try out the well-known skiing, which caused some amusement. “There’s something going on,” says Grollius. Developments are always welcome; Both Horst Kurz and Klaus Grollius expressed wishes for improvements for future events in order to further increase the positive response.

A day of remembrance and exchange

The nationwide Veterans Day, which was celebrated for the first time on June 15, is intended to show not only veterans and their families, but also civil society the importance of the Bundeswehr's services. The federal government emphasizes that the day offers space for encounters and honors commitment to peace, freedom and democracy. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius calls the day a “long-overdue sign of recognition” for the diverse services our soldiers provide.

Whether there are other reasons to attend the commitment or to get actively involved, the doors in Steimel are open and we cordially invite you to continue to support the community of reservists and voluntary work.
